The 14-Day Quarantine Measures for People from Other Countries or Areas

According to the decision of Shanghai Municipal government on March 4^th, 2020, all people who have lived or traveled in COVID-19 affected countries such as South Korea, Italy, Iran and Japan in the 14 days prior to their arrival in Shanghai must undergo 14-days quarantine at their homes or stay in designated places by Shanghai authorities. The following are three measures for different scenarios:

1) If you arrive in transit at Shanghai airports before your final destination, there are two different scenarios:

A. If your transit time is within 12 hours, you must follow the quarantine instructions that Customs authorities will indicate you;

B. If your transit time is longer than 12 hours, you will be transferred to a designated place by local authorities. Transportation will be provided by the airport. You must stay at the designated place indicated until you leave the city for your next destination.

2) If you enter Shanghai via Pudong, Hongqiao airports and you are a traveler without a fixed accommodation in Shanghai and have reserved a hotel to stay, you will be transferred to one of the designated places. Transportation will be provided by the airport. The quarantine time is 14 days. During this time, you must stay at the designated place.

3) If you have fixed accommodation in Shanghai, during your travel from the airport to your home, there are no specific measures regarding the type of transportation to use between the airports and your fixed accommodation, you should:

A. Report your information to the community management of your residence upon arrival. If your house includes an independent room that allows you to avoid any type of contact with the rest of the family members and housemates, then you could choose to do the 14-days quarantine at home. It should be noted that you shall independently use the room and the restroom for quarantine. Your room and restroom cannot be connected to the living room and other spaces where housemates and family members’ daily activities take place. Moreover, rooms and restrooms must have doors that can be locked. Finally, rooms used for quarantine purposes are recommended to have good ventilation and in the downwind direction of the rest of the rooms used by the other residents; or

B. Report your information to the community management of your residence upon arrival. If you share your house with others and there is no room that meets the requirements mentioned above, you can apply for a 14-days quarantine at one of the designated places.
