Summary

China is on pace to overtake America as the largest market for aviation in the world by 2022 (IATA 2017). Ushered in by the new era of Chinese dominance in the aviation industry will be trillions of dollars of investment pouring into all sectors of China’s aviation industry. Industry giants such as Boeing, Airbus and General Electric have already made significant efforts to cut a slice of the Chinese aviation pie for themselves and it is easy to see why when you look at the numbers.

In the medium term, analysts have predicted China will need 7000+ new aircraft and 100,000+ new pilots by 2035 (Boeing, 2017). Meanwhile in the short term, 180+ airport construction and renovation projects will commence by 2022 (IATA, 2017).

For those involved in the aviation industry, participation in the Chinese market will soon become a critical factor in one’s scale and success. However, to capitalize on and profit from the growth of the Chinese aviation market, one must first obtain an in-depth understanding of trends and circumstances within the industry.
