Environmental legal team gave a lecture entitled Public Interest Litigation Practice and Development in Shanghai Shanda University

On October 16th, 2019, attorney Xiuxiu Zhang gave a stimulating talk at Shanda University. It was addressed to undergraduate students from 2nd and 3rd grade. The lecture aimed to disseminate and generate awareness of a relatively new legal practice in China, environmental law. Ms. Zhang’s, environmental attorney at A&Z Law Firm, addressed the topic by using case studies and applying to dynamic teaching methodologies.

During this lecture, Ms. Zhang shared her personal career experience as an attorney working on this specific field. For instance, she explained cases concerning companies facing environmental risks in specific industries such as electroplating, chemical, cement, leather, and printing. These cases illustrated the advocacy and awareness work that attorneys’ career encompasses.

The growing public demand to improve environmental conditions from national to local levels, acknowledgment of environmental risks and gradually development of environmental laws and regulations are causing a flurry of environmental law activities. This trend is likely to increase. Also, surveillance and implementation measures are improving, environmental enforcement laws are steadily enhanced too.

A&Z’s Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) team is comprised of distinctive and professional senior lawyers with experience in academia, governmental, and EHS positions of large manufacturing companies. They are devoted to research and improve as the regulatory framework is evolving. With a customer-oriented approach, A&Z environmental attorneys provide services related, but not limited, to environmental compliance, work safety accidents, environmental pollution accidents, and handling disputes. Rather than waiting for an EHS accident to occur and then playing the role of “firefighter,” A&Z’s recommended approach is to be involved at the very beginning of EHS incidents, efficiently identifying the problem, and providing practical solutions. Companies can improve their capacity of managing environmental risks and disclosing data while making China a better place to live.
