Sophie An was Engaged as Legal Advisor of Shanghai’s Municipal Administration
Recent years have seen a steady increase in dispute proceedings concerning the legal enforcement of land administration and the disclosure of land and resources information. A blurred and complex dividing line between primary disputes and legal relations has resulted in the need to engage legal advisors, scholars and expert lawyers; who have become crucial when dealing effectively with contemporary administrative disputes, while further facilitating the legalization of the work of all departments in the administration of planning, land and resources.
On September 29, 2016; The Shanghai Municipal Administration of Planning, Land and Resources (hereinafter “SMAPLR”) held a ceremony in which letters concerning the engagement of legal advisors were issued. Sophie An, Director and Principal Partner of A&Z Law Firm, was formally engaged as one of the legal advisor of SMAPLR.
Amidst the ceremony, Xinhua Sun, a division chief in SMAPLR; introduced -during the preliminary phase-, the recruiting and selecting process; announcing the final engagement list pursuant to which an engagement letter was issued to Sophie An and three other legal advisors on behalf of SMAPLR. After the ceremony, the four legal advisors exchanged opinions and suggestions on how to render services and how best to cooperate with each other in the future.
In closing, the division chief Xinhua Sun expressed two service requirements; the first stressed the need for parties to take full advantage of their strengths, bringing together their expertise in an attempt to foster a complementary relationship of active interaction, and allowing for the cooperation between the in-house legal personnel of SMAPLR, and outside legal advisors. The second concerned the working mechanism, which was asserted to require further refining in harnessing the legal advisors’ knowledge on practical experience in a more efficient manner, helping SMAPLR’s work.
Sophie An stated that it was an honor having been selected a legal advisor of SMAPLR, and went on to comment that she would effectively meet her commitments to provide a high level of work in advising SMAPLR on legal affairs, while keeping due diligence in mind.
